Russia Day Celebration at the Embassy of India

On June 12, the Embassy of India in Moscow hosted a festive event celebrating Russia Day for the third consecutive year. The celebration was organised by the NRI Club - Indian Compatriots in Russia, bringing together more than two hundred Russian and Indian guests.

 His Excellency Mr. Vinay Kumar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Russia, addressed the guests with a ceremonial welcome warmly congratulating the audience on this significant occasion and noting that the long-standing Russian-Indian partnership has always been and remains rooted in deep mutual respect and understanding, as well as shared positions and aligned interests, while close humanitarian and people-to-people ties provide a fundamental pillar for the development of bilateral cooperation.

 In his speech, Mr. Devadathan Nair, President of the NRI Club - Indian Compatriots in Russia, emphasised the significance of Russia Day and the multifaceted nature of Russian-Indian cooperation in the modern world, emphasizing that for many Indians living in Russia, this country has truly become a second home.

The meeting’s honoured guests included Mikhail Mgeladze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and former Consul General of the Russian Federation in Madras (Chennai); Lyudmila Sekacheva, President of the Regional Public Organization "BRICS: World of Traditions"; Tatyana Shaumyan, Director of the Center for Indian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Sammy Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance; Abhay Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Legislation and Legal Regulation Committee of the Kursk City Assembly and other distinguished guests.

During the event, NRI Club members D. Kurbatov, V. Filatova, G. Kvasnikov, T. Shirokov and S. Fiskova presented the organisation's key achievements from 2025-2026 including the publication of the Varta Patrika journal in Russian, English, and Hindi; the organization of the first A. Nikitin Russian-Indian Award event for contributions to bilateral cooperation in various fields and the development of a mobile app designed to assist Indian compatriots in Russia. The Club members also outlined planned future initiatives, such as the establishment of a Russian-Indian youth discussion club.

A compelling part of the event, which helped to create a truly festive atmosphere, was the extensive cultural and creative program featuring performances of Russian and Indian folk and contemporary songs and dances.
